Seby Sorbello, a DOC from Etna.

Origin and personality. Born in 1975 in Zafferana Etnea (CT), he obtains his diploma at the linguistic high school and starts getting confident with the kitchen in his family’s restaurant, with regional, national and international chefs.

Young Seby makes the most of this experience and, after his studies, he starts his career as a Chef. Since then, it has been a constant growth of partnerships and success. Rai, Mediaset, Sky Alice, Antenna Sicilia, Telecolor: regional and national TV channels compete to secure him as a cooking expert. Exactly as it happens today, as Seby Sorbello is now a well-known guest in the section Tg5 Taste on Channel 5, with Gioacchino Bonsignore as director and presenter. Among the many mottos characterising him, here are some quotations:

Today Seby Sorbello successfully leads us, in the quality of Chef Patron, along a path of unique Culinary Emotions, at Sabir the Restaurant, being awarded prestigious acknowledgements, starring pages on the most renowned guide books and, above all, conquering thousands of palates. His skills and foresight are behind the birth in 2018 of Cooking Out, a branded catering and banqueting service that has become a point of reference for all events in the regional and national area.

The Chef’s intense culinary activity in the last decade has alternated with an equally challenging and satisfying association and institutional activity. For 8 years Seby Sorbello has been hailed President of the Provincial Association of Chefs of the Etna area and a prestigious (at national level) President of the Promotion Section of the Italian Federation of Chefs, the operational organization that takes care of the relations with partner companies. Creator of Cibo Nostrum, the big festival of Italian cuisine, our chef has also published, with great success both of audience and criticism the books “Baroque Tacuinum” and “The Equation of Taste” (Ali&No Publisher), with journalists Alex Revelli Sorini and Susanna Cutini. The first volume has earned him the journalist award “Apicio”, prestigious acknowledgement that is added to the one he obtained in 2014 as Chef of the Year for Solidus.

In April 2019 during the National Congress of Italian Federation of Chefs, he receives an Honorary Degree in Gastronomic Sciences, awarded by San Raffaele University in Rome. At Sicilian level he receives an award from the Press Association, with the Literary Prize “Tito Mascali” and the Journalist Award “Talking about Catania”, special mention, with the following motivation: “for the cultural, apart from the culinary, contribution he has given to the territory around Mount Etna”, for contributing to organize the event “the Opera of Taste” at the Theatre “Vincenzo Bellini”, with more than a thousand Chefs from all over Italy being invited at the temple of music in Catania.

At the 50th edition of Vinitaly, VeronaFiere board has chosen him as excellent Sicilian Chef to create two dishes for the “Extra Virgin Olive Oil Gala Dinner” in front of an international audience composed by the major oil producers from all over the world. But this is not everything: Chef Sorbello has been invited twice as Judge for the Italian national selection of Bocuse d’Or, the most important world contest for Chefs, with the best chefs coming from all five continents competing against one another.

In spite of his many commitments, Seby has also had time to play the role of international teacher, with two culinary trips to Palestine, in Ramallah, as Ambassador of the Mediterranean Cuisine in the World for the ICE Agency (National Institute for Foreign Trade), and in Belarus, in Minsk. Among his many commitments there is his speech at BIT (International Tourism Exhibition) in Milan, 2020 edition, as prestigious culinary representative of the Sicilian Region.
